That is the simple meaning of Yoga. A single word that encompasses everything yoga can do for the practitioner: create a seamless connection between body and mind; unify us with nature; merge the individual, with the Universal.
Yoga then, is not and has never been just about being a set of physical contortions. In unequivocal terms, the ancient Upanishads, the great knowledge repository, say the character of the practitioner itself metamorphoses when practicing Yoga. Sage Patanjali who extracted from these Yoga Upanishads and compiled “sutras” or aphorisms, that pithily encapsulate the essential features of Yoga also ascertained the all-encompassing nature of Yoga. So seminal is the work that remarkably, thousands of years later, it is still relevant. The eight-limb method or Ashtanga Yoga that he propounded, is scientific and systematic, and includes dos and don’ts for everyday living that can lead to mastery over mind and body. Vertical Divider

Wonderfully democratic in approach, Yoga is meant for everyone. Old? Young? Athlete? Physically challenged? Yoga sees no limitations and embraces everyone freely willing to embark on the journey of breath, body, and mind development.
At VYASALA we closely follow this master’s principles. Uniquely, we offer an integrated approach where even a regular class addresses harmony of body, mind, and breath. It deeply relaxes the body, slows the breath, increases creativity and willpower of the mind, sharpens the intellect, and creates equipoise. VYASALA welcomes you to join us on the voyage to move from the brash to the sensitive, gross to the subtle, and from the inane to the divine! |
